Maple Details

Maple is the offspring of Process Grotesque — our retired interpretation of the Stephenson Blake grotesques, originally released in 2002. Although the original was a well-intentioned effort, its uneasy lowercase and adherence to a model left it wooden and unsure. It was summarily shown the door in 2003.

Maple continues the spirited tradition of the early grotesques, a genre that can be traced back to the first sans serif shown by William Caslon in 1816. With the Stephenson Blake models as a historical starting point, Maple further explores the multi-functionality of the genre beyond its origins in 19th-century advertising, making it equally at home in text and display environments. The family is available in four widths with matching italics.
